Covid-19 safety

Your safety is our top priority. We want you to feel comfortable and safe when you visit us for your appointment.
We are closely following the health and safety recommendations from Public Health and the University Health Network (UHN). When you visit us, you can rest assured that we are doing everything possible to keep you safe. Our measures meet or exceed recommended safety procedures for personal protective equipment (PPE), infection control, and physical distancing.
For more information on visiting the hospital during COVID-19, please visit the UHN website.
Screening
You will be screened prior to your appointment for symptoms of COVID-19 and as you enter the hospital. Do not come to the hospital if you are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:
  • Fever, chills or headache

  • New or worsening cough

  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, sore throat or difficulty swallowing

  • Runny nose, or stuffy nose without another cause (e.g., allergies)

  • Nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain

  • Decrease/loss of taste or smell

  • Unexplained fatigue, malaise, muscle aches

  • Eye pain or pink eye

Masking & Protective gear
Everyone entering the hospital is required to wear a mask. You will be supplied with a procedure mask to wear when you enter the hospital. The mask must remain on throughout your visit.
Munk Hearing Centre staff members will be outfitted with level 3 procedure masks and face shields, plus gowns/scrubs and gloves when indicated.
Visitor Policy

UHN has joined other Ontario hospitals in moving to a No Visitor policy, with exceptions on compassionate grounds and other special safety needs. No companions or family members are permitted without obtaining prior approval from the unit or clinic manager. This extremely difficult decision has been made to protect the safety of patients and health care workers.
If you believe you have special circumstances that would warrant an exception, please call us at least 24 hours prior to your appointment (416-340-4800 x. 7067).
Physical distancing
We will be operating with a locked door policy, meaning that only one patient is permitted inside the reception area at a time. We have staggered appointment start times to maintain physical distancing in the waiting room. In most instances, the waiting room will be completely empty when you arrive and you will quickly be moved to a private testing room.
hand hygiene
Hand hygiene is an incredibly important part of preventing the spread of COVID-19. Hand sanitizer will be provided at entrances to the hospital and at key intervals throughout the clinic.

Always use clean hands when putting on or taking off your mask (i.e. if you need to remove it to eat or drink).
infection control
We have implemented enhanced infection control measures. Medical equipment and high-touch surfaces are cleaned and sanitized between appointments.
